When a child reaches 18

This has probably been posted before but I can't find the info on the CSA Website so here I am. My second daughter reaches 18 in a few days time and pending successful A level results will be off to University. My eldest daughter is already at Uni and third daughter, only 14, still at home with her mother. So until now I have been paying child maintenance at 20% for two daughters. My eldest I just give her some money to help with Uni costs every month. My question is when does my requirement to pay child maintenance for my second daughter end? She's 18 in a week and off to university. Thanks

As far as I understand it is up until the child's 19th birthday whilst CBis being collected on their behalf.0

If she goes to uni, the child benefit will stop on the first Monday in September -= that is when the CSA liability will stop for her.0

Thanks for your help0

i thought it was the on their 19th birthday? thats what the website says?0

Only if they carry on in non-advanced education - university is advanced education so CSA stops.0

Does this mean if they are 18 and decide to go to college (having dropped out of their last 2 courses) maintenance is carried on until they are 19?
Thanks0 -
If they have a case currently running with the CSA then yes, if they are continuing in further (non advanced) education, child maintenance will be payable until they're 19, assuming the PWC is still in receipt of child benefit.Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Hello - flagging this one up for thoughts. Oldest S son has dropped out of college. He is 18 next week. Our maintenance was originally sorted through court and has been happily paid. We got a letter a few months ago saying something about switching to another CSA form of paying (surprised as they have had nothing to do with it) but all still paid as usual. We are wondering what happens should step son sign on for JSA. He is job hunting at mo but no joy so far. We are happy to keep paying towards his upkeep but want to know whether this is a legal entitlement. He spends most of his time living at his girlfriend's and we think perhaps her mum should get some 'board'. Hopefully he'll get a job and that will sort everything. Anyway, any advice re CSA and being 18 would be appreciated.

Was the letter from the CSA itself?
If so, then perhaps somebody has contacted them & they may become involved.
I was under the impression that court orders ended on the 17th birthday of the child in question so perhaps there's been an enquiry about continuing maintenance after this date.
As far as I'm aware, if he is signing on for JSA then child benefit ceases & so would any CSA liability. But get someone on this board who may work for the CSA to confirm this.
If it wasn't from the CSA then personally, I would carry on with your current arrangements.Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Debt at highest approx £102,000. Debt now (October 2009 - absolutely fork all!!!)
