Dominican Rep - need for jabs?

Hi all

We're off to the Dom Rep in June. In the brochure it said we need jabs for Hep A, malaria (tabs), polio, typhoid & Diptheria.

I've heard from others that they're unnecessary as the vast majority of the island is clear, and unless you go into the wild forests, etc, it's overkill (pun?).

Can anyone who has been advise us?

Many thanks

We went a few years ago and had all the jabs - the malaria tablets are awful. They're will be a few excursions that you may want to go on so I would say better safe than sorry and also the water there is bad so you have to brush your teeth etc with bottled water but it's your choice in the end. Looking on a downside check your travel insurance as it may say that you need to have the jabs - you don't want to be stuck there if you're ill!!!!

Enjoy the holiday - it was a lovely place!!!!! I'm jealous as we're not going anywhere this year as my OH is going away for 7 months (forces).

I reckon multisystem organ failure sounds like great fun, miles better than the jungle safari and probably cheaper on the NHS than via the Tour Rep. The less people protected against the diseases increases the likelihood of it spreading and returning to areas thought to have eradicated them. It's a gamble with your life(but also others indirectly). Your choice

    Thanks all.

Your thoughts absolutely match my own, but I wanted other opinions to show my OH who heard that it wasn't necessary, and who, would you believe it (probably) is a nurse!!!!

I regard it in the same context as insurance - you need it in case.....

    Thanks again
