Problem is that everyone is applying for these jobs. Bar jobs ask for experience-of which I have none as I don't drink! And shelf stacking is a last resort! I have 5+ years worth of experience in Insurance admin and call centres so just want a job where I can use my skills and get paid a decent wage-which many people are looking for.

Just because I am a student doesn't mean I have to settle for bar work or shelf stacking.

try not to think of bar work or shelf stacking as a last resort, they are a good way of making money while you find something more suited to you. Also depending what bars/pubs/hotels you find work in,they can be a way of networking as you meet people from all walks of life ( not just the sleazy types) and some of them may be able to help you out with their contacts etc. Very often it's who you know that can get you the job you really want.Just be a bit more open minded towards things

Thanks duchy :-) I checked out sliversoftime and think it's a brilliant idea. I'm a uni student looking for work FT over the summer but only PT to fit around my studies when they resume in September/October so if it launches in Birmingham and I haven't found anything more permanent then I will definitely be trying to get some work through them. Until then it's back to the search...

TakeNoteTyping may be of use, typing up transcriptions of audio files. I have a friend who does it and seems to do OK out of it (he is a very fast touchtyper though, which certainly helps)

    Hi,

I used to work for this company, typing reports etc at home. They email you a sound file and you e-mail them back the document. They do take off money for mistakes though - I used to make quite good money but it is hard work and ended up typing most nights when the kids were in bed - but it worked for me for a while.

I think you just register your details with them and they send you a document to type and then take it from there.

    good luck

they arent taking anyone on i asked! hth.

  • I work for an adult texting and phone company and also a tarot line and I find if I put the hours in that I make a good income from this. Some companies like to rota you in so you don't bet flexible hours, and thy pay ranges from 4p a text from the low end companies up to 9p or 12 p a text for experienced texters at some of the better companies.

I do this full time and get a very reasonable monthy pay for it !

Anyone else do this and find it suite them?

How do amazon pay you? I've read the FAQ and I'm still a little confused. It seems like you can only request a bank transfer if you have a US bank account. Is this correct? You can also request Amazon.com vouchers. Does anyone know if you can use amazon.com vouchers on amazon.co.uk?

    Many thanks

I believe you can use Amazon vouchers anywhere that Amazon have a site, but don't quote me on that.

I signed up to the MTurk myself to get some work in, but no-one told me that they only pay in gift vouchers; I abandoned it soon after. I don't want to BUY things with my money :D

Can you sell vouchers on eBay or summat? I sold an Amazon voucher to my mum as she wanted to buy something from there! They also make good gifts ;)

No you cannot - I have some amazon US vouchers and they say you can only use them on amazon.com Will probably have to sell them on the US ebay unless anyone knows a better idea..
