Credir Card interest help

Was previously self employed, I currently have no work so have just signed on Job Seekers Allowance. Hopefully this is just a temporary blip, but at the moment credit cards are max'd out and need help with repayments, if only for a few months.

What is the procedure and the correct terminology to ask them hold off on the interest so I can make at least some small payment until I get back on my feet, without getting into arrears.

Can I do the same for a personal loan?

Are there any drawbacks in doing this?

Best to repost on the Debt-Free Wannabee board, they'll be able to give you more advice there.
