Mum-income support-son-adult learning grant

Sorry if this is in the wrong place.
My son receives the adult learning grant and attends college full time, studying A levels.
I m on full housing and caouncil tax benefit.

I have just received my CTax and housing benefit award notice, and I my benefit has been reduced, as my son's grant has stopped, but will start again in September.

I am struggling as it is now trying to keep him, as £30 goes no where (hlf is for his bus ticket)

Can he claim job seekers allownce for a short time?
There are no temporary jobs here. He has tried and keeps going into the job centre, but there is nothing he can do for the roughly 8 weeks till he claims ALG gain.
Thanks for any help! .

Could he get a job , even delivering papers until term starts again? How many hours a week is his course?

    My son is 22
He has asked all over for a part time job and had no luck.

    His course is full time

Paper rounds pay about £20 a week, he could do that as well as his course. He needs to ask in all the local newsagents. I bet a lot of their regulars will be holidaying in the summer so they may need relief cover.

Did he work before he started his course? He could ask a previous employer perhaps.

I assume he isn't sick or disabled or you would have said, isn't looking for work. Dunno if that leaves anything that he can claim. Difficult situation. Sometimes there is no alternative to supporting oneself.

Not necessarily. If OP was on DLA it could be possible for son to claim carers allowance.

Wasn't meant to be rude Zara33, I was merely going to ask if there were other benefits the OP could be entitled to.

    Hello again.
No I don't get any other benefits, except income support as a new single parent (left on my own now with 2 at school and my student son)

Hate it and am jobseeking too.

I never thought of a paper round. Apart form that, there is little her he can do.
Even the supermarkets are fully staffed at the moment and don't need him.
Will let you know how I get on.

It just seems unfair that my CT and rent benefit will go down, becuse for the 6 weeks, he has no income at all.
Yet if he gets jobseekers allowance, I will still get the full amount!
How can they drop my money, because he has less?
