Mortgage payment

At the moment, the interest on my interest only mortgage is paid by the Benefits Agency. The mortgage ends in 2 years and the endowment was lost in the financial crisis so I have nothing with which to pay it off.My grandparents have offered to give me the whole amount of 30000 instead of leaving it to me in their will and this money would go directly to the building society, not touching my bank account.I can't find out from the BA if this would affect my benefits-am I disposing of money over the limit I am allowed to have?Technically the DWP would be saving money as they would stop my interest payments when the mortgage is finished but I can't get a straight reply.

If your Grandparents pay the money straight to your lender there's no deprivation because you never had the money in the first place. Obviously you'll have to notify the DWP when the transaction goes through. They tend not to give advice about theoretical changes for fear you make a major financial decision based on it ... and they're scared there'll be come back against them if their advice turns out to be wrong.Hi
