That's the thing Shaz - it works both ways. If you work for an understanding employer, then you don't mind coming in early, working late, doing extra days or taking work home sometimes......

  • I'm getting very fed up with having flu. It's occurred to us that H2B's family are supposed to be visiting in 2 days time, so we might have to ask them to change their plans. I'd feel really bad if the niece and nephews caught it but we're supposed to be looking after the kids while their Mum goes away for the weekend, so will feel equally guilty for ruining her holiday if she then can't go. Still all we can do is let her know, and then she can decide if she wants to risk it.

I finally finished the wedding invite printing at 5pm, so it took around 4 hours I think! It's a very nice printer (and was free) so I don't think I can really complain about the speed, especially when the ink is about £1 a cartridge on ebay... I only had 3 stamps, so not sent many of the invites yet!

lyndasharp, I hope you and your family feel better soon.

Does anyone know a good cheap fabric store online. If it's not allowed to name them here (advertising?), please PM me.

    Hi everyone.

Can't help with the fabric store but I'm nosy, can I ask what you are making Thriftylass?

Frugalness is going well today. My car is a bit rubbish and its latest fault was that the horn beeped everytime I indicated right. Recently its started just beeping randomly. Because its the most embarassing thing ever and I don't want to scare old people I've taken to walking everywhere. This morning a man came to fix the tractor. We exchanged greetings and I made him a cuppa tea. I asked him if he knew about normal cars, told him what was the matter with mine and guess what... He fixed it! I'm very very pleased, even more so because he wouldn't take any money - he said that he never gets offered a drink and he thought I was a nice girl for making him some tea. I did go out and get him a case of beer but its still miles cheaper than taking it to a garage. Just goes to show, all the stuff my Gran said about good deeds is true :)

    Hi everyone!

I'm back from my honeymoon and am trying to get back into normality  or what counts as it here :rotfl:

What a lovely way to get your car fixed chika :)

Hope you feel better soon Lynda

I found the protein chat interesting, I've never thought about looking at it re allowances before. I agree with adding lentils to my mince, actually I'm making bolengse tonight. I can make my meat last for ages by bulking it out (thanks MSE for telling me how) but OH grumbles a bit when he has to search for the meat :D

    Hello :)

    Welcome back Mrs SmSave :D

Hope you're feeling better really soon, Lynda, best explaining to the rellies before they arrive with kiddies and then it's their decision - got to agree with you there. Glad you got the invites printed, we're doing the place setting cards tomorrow - hope I don't botch them up! :o

Nice work with the horn fixing, Chika - was it a frugal chat-up line or the classic frugal female in distress? :rotfl:

Just completed this month's shopping - bread, dozen cartons milk, chicken and a few odds & ends, so I now have a new challenge to add to the many existing ones! I have £200 to last me 4 months for groceries, £50 per month for 3 of us! Fridge, freezer and cupboards are all quite full and I have 10 hens laying me eggs, so no shortages there. I've set aside the few pound over the £200 for Christmas meal extras, but that is it! I can't afford to lose my own challenge, so I'm setting another mini one within the 4k one! Now I'm off to DGD's birthday tea, hope you're all having OK days. We actually have some sunshine here today, although there are mutterings about a tail lashing due from hurricane Bill or something like that.

Do you know what, if anyone can stick to a challenge Nyk its you, I'm sure you will be just fine. Having chickens to lay eggs must be fantastic. I had to go and get some this morning and they are £3.99 for 12 here. I almost fainted!

Haha I was being a bit dim about the man fixing my horn! It was entirely innocent damsel in distress frugalism! I really really hope I didn't say "please can you fix my horn" to the poor bloke. Oh dear!

The other problem with some non meat proteins is that you need to eat certain foods together to ensure they are absorbed ........we did this in nutrition at catering college but i forget the specifics it's something to do with the number of amino acids in non meat proteins ...................not sure that was of any use whatsoever really:rotfl:

It's also outdated information - we now know that combining proteins is unnecessary.
  • It's also outdated information - we now know that combining proteins is unnecessary.

I was thinking more of having fatin a meal to aid the absorbtion of vits A,D,E,K and taking vit C(orange juice) with an iron based food(spinach ) .............................but it was a while ago so accept things my have changed i think what i was trying to say is variety in diet is better.

My canner is in the Uk .............unfortunately it came with a bill for duty but have now paid it and it will be here tomorrow :T:T:T

Oh and we will be getting some chickens in the new year if all goes well too i am so excited
