Good evening to all, sorry I've been AWOL, just lost track of time today and ended up spending most of the time outside moving chickens around and building the new coop. Couple of coffee breaks with SM, gained another jar of preserve for the stores (apple jelly :D)) and collected about 8 eggs form hens today. I also bit the bullit and SPENT MONEY! Not a lot, just ordered a few shelves for the pantry so I can start stocking them up for winter. Jam & jelly making is rather fun, I can highly recommend it to everyone.

Cha - welcome back, PM me you email address so I can invite you to be my Facebook farm neighbour :o:D I made it to level 21 tonight. :rotfl:

Will try my best to catch up with everyone soon, hope everyone is well :)

That farm town is addictive though isn't it Nyk

  • Depends on how none-blush you want. I usually stay in youth (usually meet all sorts of age groups though ;)) hostels when in Edinburgh. Some are really nice/clean and have a lot of character (try the independent ones as you don't need to be a member). Most now also offer twin rooms rather than just dorms, although that's still usually £40 per room (not per person!) for two.

Thanks, I hadn't considered youth hostels as we are both 50  but it could be worth a look. It's only one night, so I might be able to convince ex OH

As mentioned before age doesn't matter anymore today, especially in the independent ones. I recently stayed with my parents (60 and 54) in a youth hostel (4 bed room) in Edinburgh. It was a lovely old church and cheap.

Afternoon my frugal friends, hope all is well for everyone today. I've had a lovely morning - wandered through the charity shops in Monmouth this morning and bought some nice things for going back to school in September. Also decided that before uni starts again, I'm going to have a last stand in London. I'll go to carnival with friends which sould be fun. For some bizzare reason they are doing engineering work on the line on the 29th so no fast (or cheap) trains to London from Manchester. Instead I had to get a national express which costs £10 so a bargain really - its also faster than the train believe it or not. There are lots of changes and the total journey will take 5hrs 44mins, the coach takes 5hrs and ten mins. Can anyone reccomend a good book?!

Michelle I hope you have a lovely time away with your hubby.

Sophiesmum Thank you for the advice, I have been out and picked blackberries and apples for jam later. I've salvaged a few jars from the recycling. I'll have a go at sterilising them in milton and away we go. Mmm jam on toast. Cannot wait!

grandma247 Thanks for the pear butter idea, I used to eat it a lot when I was vegan and love it. It didn't occur to me that its something that can be made, if that makes sense. I'm going to make that as soon as the pans are clean from the jam! I might try it with nutmeg instead of cinnamon. Yummy!

slowlyfading I know what you mean about the make up - I was just going to post about the same thing. I've managed to trim my spending in most areas but skincare is soooo expensive. I like MAC tried everything and nothing else comes close and I also really like Dermalogica face stuff it just takes up such a big chunk out of my budget and makes me a little sad!

lingojingo Congrats to your DD:beer:. If you check the travel0dge website there are rooms from £29 in various locations dotted around edinburgh. They aren't fancy but normally clean and cheap.

Oh no what happened? Hope you're ok *hugs* If you manager is a **** then I don't blame you for quitting. No money is worth the stress of that.

  • I feel really guilty, but I am going to have to do 'catch all' oooh, ahhh, really and wow to this last week of posts - I have read them all and have offered suitable responses but just don't have the extra energy to write them all down. Loving the baking/ livestock and foraging going on.

But must say a quick welcome back michellecha - your absense had been noticed. Delighted that you have been able to make a decsion re your job that is clearly right for you by your reaction to it and by sensible decisions with your savings:T. Hope you are having a good 24hr break.Good to hear fom you too andromache and that all is good in loved-up land:D

I have been making cheese scones today for the first time ever. I have of course been road testing too many:o, but I only cooked half the mixture as I was sure they wouldn't be cheesy enough with the quantities in the recipe. It took quite to few to confirm that view:D. Added as much cheese again to rest of mixture and they are now baking in the remoska. Also made a cake. Both are for a picnic tomorrow where we all bring and share.

Feel a little fed up - having abad 24hrs with my legs and want to wimper that I'm too young to be struggling with the stairs like this. But of course there's loads worse off of all ages. It's just so knackering and I have achieved so little today, in fact all week. Grrr. Winge over.

My namesake chicken wants to pass on her grateful thanks for the slug thrown her way SM. She's wants me to tell you that a few more delicacies like that and she'll be turning out eggs by the dozen for you:D.

Hope you are doing ok today cw

Thanks.( the manager at work had it in for me today - shouted at me in front of a full shop for taking a bread roll in to the back for my lunch when someone else had, and then ignored me the rest of the day. can't be bothered to deal with all the drama to be honest. the worse thing is, she made me cry! And made me feel useless, and i refuse to work with someone who makes me feel like she did today. :(

  • sounds miserable sf - a client made me feel like that at work once, they were so horrible to me, when I was trying to protect my boss whose husband was very sick. I felt terrible so I know how it can get you. You only have about 10 days left til you leave?
When are you next due in? Does in give you time to think what will be best?

sf - ((hugs)) you haven't much longer at the job anyway so if it is really making you feel so bad have a think if you can manage without the income, and if so leave. In fact if it is so bad I would leave anyway, another weeks money isn't going to make much difference in the long run and it will give you more time to do the essays you have lined up and get things sorted before you start your course. Some people are just bullies at work:mad:

BB - here is a pic of BB helping to demolish some bolted salad stuffs from the veggie garden, this was the main course after the slug starter :D I picked some blackberries for dessert but my chickies don't like them:confused:
