  • Sorry i haven't been on much lately - first a week in Swindon and then so excited over DD's A level results :j. She will be going to Edinburgh in 3 weeks  that's my baby, where have the years gone?
Now i have a question for all you frugal Scottish friends - where can ex OH and i stay cheaply overnight on 12th Sept? It doesn't have to be right in Edinburgh as he will have his car, but we won't be sharing a bed . Twin beds would be ok just for the one night. We wouldn't need meals, although breakfast would be ok,. Doesn't need to be plush, just clean. I've nearly gone cross eyed looking at sites, but all seem very expensive.

Good evening to all, sorry I've been AWOL, just lost track of time today and ended up spending most of the time outside moving chickens around and building the new coop. Couple of coffee breaks with SM, gained another jar of preserve for the stores (apple jelly :D)) and collected about 8 eggs form hens today. I also bit the bullit and SPENT MONEY! Not a lot, just ordered a few shelves for the pantry so I can start stocking them up for winter. Jam & jelly making is rather fun, I can highly recommend it to everyone.

SM - I'll pop some sugar round to you tomorrow, no point stopping when you're on a roll. We've some berry picking to do if the rain doesn't wash them all away before we reach them. :rotfl:

Cha - welcome back, PM me you email address so I can invite you to be my Facebook farm neighbour :o:D I made it to level 21 tonight. :rotfl:

Whitewing, good luck with scan - are you going to ask if they can determine whether baby is a girl or a boy?

Andromache - Do you know if can I keep the same mobile number even changing to a different network. It's an O2 number but there is absolutely no O2 signal here, hence the reason I haven't been switching on the phone.

Sorry I can't help with Edinburgh area accommodation, bit far away from us. Hope you find something suitable.

Will try my best to catch up with everyone soon, hope everyone is well :)

Yep! Just ring up O2 and ask them for the PAC code in relation to the now defunct sim card. I guess you should do it soonish in case they reallocate the number or something since you say they want to cancel the old one? Then when you have picked the new provider you want to move to, get a sim card for them. It might even say somewhere in the welcome literature what you have to do (it did when I moved *to* O2 a couple of months ago) but if it doesn't then you just need to ring up the customer service line for your new provider with your PAC code to hand and they'll be able to use that to transfer the number across, though like I said there'll probably be a couple of days of being on a temporary number. It would be a shame to lose it if you've had it since 1998 after all :D

  • nyk just sent you a PM.

I'm having terrible trouble winding down again tonight. I've decided to just stay up later rather than lie in bed thinking. It helped last night anyway.

I'm really looking forward to our night away tomorrow. The in-laws are taking the kids out for the afternoon so we can go over to the hotel, make use of the gym and pool and get ready. It will be so nice to be able to switch off for about 24 hours.

I've got some sausages out the freezer to defrost overnight so we can all eat a proper meal at lunchtime. We've got quite a bit to do tomorrow like sort all the kids clothes out for nightime and to wear on Sunday, and pack, and change our bedding, and run a hoover round our room. I scrubbed the bathroom at about 11pm when i got out the bath so at least that is already presentable.

I'm going to try and go to bed in a minute.

I'll probably see you all next week now. Have a lovely weekend.

    Good morning frunchkins:D

Looks like the start of a decent day here :D, chickies are out and just had a treat of some wholemeal bread and some sunflower seeds which they quickly demolished, also fed them a couple of slugs which were on the lawn - good recycling:rotfl:
Kettle is on for when frugaldom neighbour is done with jobs, so just having a quick mooch on here to start the day.
Plans for today include making a loaf, sorting out some stuff in veggie garden and probably picking some rowan berries later. Need a trip into town to settle an invoice for some fencing and pick up bedding for the chickies, also need more sugar just in case I get around to making the rowan jelly:rolleyes:
Preserves storecupboard is filling up nicely with lots of lovely goodies, can't wait for pressure canner to arrive now and get going on the veggies etc.

Have a great day everyone, Michelle enjoy your free time with OH :D

Hi everyone! Can't believe it's scan time already Whitewing, how exciting! Hope it all goes well. Only been able to skim read v quickly a few posts so sorry peeps - we still don't have internet sorted and with the power cuts it's difficult to do much. We have a permanent place to stay now - rent is £1 a day :D - so hopefully we may be able to get some form of internet there and I can be more in touch with what's going on with everyone. I can't believe it's time for SFT to come home already, hope you had a lovely time and enjoyed coming home to your beautiful cottage (still harbouring dreams of doing that myself ;)).

My PM box gets very full here - sorry Andromache - so I'm going to put my email address up here for a few days. If you're interested in the blog then email me and I can send you an invite. I'll take the email down next time I'm on but if you miss it I'm happy for it to be shared with any friends on 4k.

Right, need to dash as we're on a buying mission to stock up on Christmas pressies and winter gear before the season starts and prices shoot up. See, still being a good little frugaller :D Lots love everyone xx

Depends on how none-blush you want. I usually stay in youth (usually meet all sorts of age groups though ;)) hostels when in Edinburgh. Some are really nice/clean and have a lot of character (try the independent ones as you don't need to be a member). Most now also offer twin rooms rather than just dorms, although that's still usually £40 per room (not per person!) for two.

    Good morning frugalites,

Bails, thanks for the email address, I've save it, hope you don't mind. :)

Lovely and sunny here, washing's on the line, chickens all out and about, had cuppa with SM and topped her sugar supply up - got to keep production unit going next door as it's really good jam & jelly. (Thanks, SM :D) Won't be swapping eggs for preserves once SM's chickies start laying, so some forward frugal planning was involved. :rotfl:

Cha, thanks for PM, all sorted now, you can be my neighbour at virtual Frugaldom in FarmV!lle :D Have a great time when you're away, you know what they say... if you can't be good, be careful. ;):rotfl:

Must complete week 4 of my C25K challenge as [art of my get fitter, not fatter challenge. Bashed ankle, me no wanna run, maybe I could hobble really quickly and pick blackberries en route home when I'm hoping to go foraging with SM later. More free food. :D Yesterday, we had a partridge wandering about the field out the back as well as the pheasants in the front field. There are loads of rabbits and deer... pity I'm the gatherer type and not a hunter. :rotfl:

Thanks for info re phones, Andromache. Will rake out details and try to sort out phone number problem. I don't even know when the mobile 'died' as it has no signal here and hasn't been used for months.

Off to hang out another load of washing, hope the free drying system stays with us all day. :)

My previous number was with O2, and younger DS now has that SIM. I have to remind him from time to time to keep it active, as I think he much be the ONLY teenager around who doesn't even carry it to college !!!! Pretty certain O2 disables them (regardless of whether or not they have any credit on them) if they're not used to make a chargeable call or send a text at least once every 6 months  I normally nag him every 3, and think he's due a nag at the start of next month ;)
