Worrying email from PayPal

Options
Earlier today I received an e-mail from PayPal saying:

"Dear Chipmunk,

The mandate from your bank account, ending in ****, was returned by your bank on 30 Jun. 2009 for the reason below:

The bank is disputing the Direct Debit Instruction (DDI).

Yours sincerely,

PayPal

Having been the victim of bank card cloning last year to the tune of over £1000, I'm understandably worried. I do have a PayPal account but the last transaction I made was back in March this year and I don't owe any money to eBay/PayPal.

Has anyone heard of this before?

It sounds like it might be spam so..
I would forward this email to spoof@paypal.com.
They will reply and let you know if it originated with them (might take a couple of hours to get reply).
If you want to check your paypal account DO NOT click any links, just put www.paypal.com in your browser and go through there.

If they say it is a legit email then you would have to ask paypal what is going on.

    When I said spam, I meant phishing.Doh!

    It's only a game

Have you transferred accounts, canceled the direct debit, or not used it for 12 months or more?

I don't think it's spam because they had got the last four digits of my a/c number correct.

I did cancel the DD I had in place a while ago as I will no longer be using the account and I did wonder if this was something to do with it but I don't know why they have tried to take money from my account in the first place to instigate this email saying that my DD had been returned. As I mentioned, I've not carried out any transactions since March.
  • dont panic...I had one and it was spam....:money:

Sign in to PayPal and check your transaction history just in case?

it wont be spam as youve cancelld your DD.
paypal usually tries to confirm the DD is set up and is still valid every month.
how else would they know wether to allow you to make payment by instant bank transfer.
