Hi. I had a disagreement with my old insurance company Halifax over a year ago now which lead to them cancelling my house insurance after a claim for burglary. The disagreement came over the fact they left it over 2 months to send out a loss inspector to my address to assess my claim, the guy who turned up was an ex police inspector who due to the time difference between the interview and the claim turned my claim inside out. I had 2 other claims over the last 5 years due to the fact I lived in a very high risk area and the loss inspector they sent out was blatently sent out to set me up. The inspector in his report found some discrepensies with my claim and Halifax refused to pay out on the grounds they they beleived I was putting in an exhagerated claim, and then cancelled my insurance. This has left me majorly in limbo with regards to getting insurance now. I have a few question and would appreciate it if someone in the know could help me.
1, Do I have to declare that I have had insurance cancelled when I insure my car, or does this not count as it is house insurance?
2, Is the information Halifax have on file available to all insurance companies?
3, I dispute the information Halifax have on file with regards to my claim. I am happy to no longer have insurance with them as they were awful, but is there any way I can get them to alter the information they have on me or get it removed? Is there any way I can get Halifax to not sare that information with regards to sharing personal details?
4, Is there a time scale on the question 'have you ever had insurance cancelled in the past'? Ie. will there ever be a point where I will not have to declare this?
5, I am now struggling to get house insurance. Where would be the best place to find it?
6, I have since met my partner and now live with her. Does this effect any insurance she has that she is in a relationship with me.
7, Finally what is the best advise you can offer me in this situation. I have lost all confidence in insurance companies and now would only want a basic building insurance to protect me against something seroius like a full scalpe fire damage, where there would be major damage to the structure of my house. Ie. there bare minimum I need to keep my morgage company happy.
Any help on this issue will be greatly received.

1) Yes you have to disclose it. They dont declare what type of insurancee for declarations
2) Yes it can be shared
3)Not unless you prove its wrong
4)Unlikely
5)A specialist broker
6)Its likely it will affect any sort of insurance/based on you being involved
7)This will be up to your mortgage and its terms0 -
For once Lilias is actually correct...
You can get cover through Bureau Insurance Services0 -
You really should have addressed/fought the situation with the Halifax at the time if your claim was 100% genuine. Maybe it is not to late to do so now? Otherwise I think you are in real difficulty with regards to all of your questions.0
