Jsa?

MummyYummy
Hello everyone,
I am currently seeking work, have been for around 9 months now - I have been a stay-at-home Mum for the past 3 years (apart from working a 4 week temp job in 2007)
I was wondering if I would be entitled to JSA? My partner works 40 hours a week.
I did get turned down for incapacity benefit just under 3 years ago (I had medical issues after the birth of my child) because I hadn't paid enough National Insurance.
I've never tried to claim anything else (apart from CTC and child benefit) so I am not sure how the system works.
Thanks in advance!!!

In a nutshell, I'm afraid not. If you have not worked for the past three years then I am assuming you haven't been paying national insurance contributions voluntarily therefore you would not qualify for contribution based JSA.
As your partner works over 24 hours per week, it is highly unlikely you would qualify for Income Based JSA.0 -
If you were turned down for IB because of a lack of NI then the same will happen with JSA contribution based.
You will not be able to claim income based JSA due to your husbands earnings.
You could still sign on to keep your NI record up to date with regards to your State Retirement Pension.0 -
Thanks for the replies, I thought not.
I did speak to the N.I office when I gave up my job after maternity leave and they said I would receive an invoice to pay up my N.I if I wanted to. I've not received anything though so thanks for jogging my memory, I will get in touch with them again.0
