Hi, I've been housesharing for a few years before moving back in with the rents a few months ago. All my experiences were good; I met some great friends and lived in some great places. I would advise that you go for a nicer house; tend to get nicer people. I always went with other people similar to my situation (young prof) so we always had a bit in common.

    Good luck whatever you decide

    i'm a 27 year old male, earn £14,900 (= net £1,016pcm). might be moving to a £18-20k job in a few months.
    have £29,000 savings.
live with parents atm, want to move out - should I rent a flat (c£500pcm), buy a flat (ave. £100k where I live) or go into a house share (c£325pcm)?
    advice needed please...

Stick it out until you have changed jobs and keep saving like a demon. Then buy a two bedroom flat in an average area with your souped-up income, and move into the smaller bedroom yourself. Let the larger bedroom and you have a (tax free) extra income stream in case of job loss and a flatmate for company. As it will be your flat you get to make the rules, within reason, you choose who you live with and you can store any excess possessions in the communal areas of the flat.

I did this and I can afford to work part-time if I am careful with money. ;) If you do lose your job you can always move home and let the whole flat til you get on your feet.

rj, i too am 27 yo male about an hour from london, i got on property ladder 7 yrs ago, never went to uni. currently got a 2 bed place, see my other posts for breakdown on costs. i am actually goin back to parents for 6 months/year to be able to over pay my mortgage. however i would consider a flatshare if it was around 300 a month and in a good location.
