Mortgage payment protection insurance

My son is buying a house and looking at all the insurance policies he should get,his budget will be very tight. He will get Buildings and contents insurance and also Mortgae life assurance so if he dies the mortgage will be paid but I have read differing views on whether he should get one of these PPI's any advice??? My brain is going to mush after so many hours researching...help..

Does he need life assurance?
Personally, i dislike MPPI or PPI. I would prefer permanent health insurance as it has far better claims stats and is more useful for the long term. Plus, it can be tailored to fit employer benefits. It doesnt cover redundancy but then a standalone unemployment plan can do that if he wants to cover for unemployment.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
