Matalan card still needed?

Hi

Does anyone know if you still need a matalan card to make a purchase instore?

We're away from home, and havent got the card with us, and get a bit annoyed with the 10 minute selling spiel you get about the card regardless of whether you do or dont have a card if you've forgotten it.

Havent been in a matalan for a year, and could only find a thread about this from a year ago with conflicting opinions....thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

I've shopped in the Bristol branch loads of times without a card. If they ask me to join I just say no, without having the spiel.

No - I asked last time I was in and although they still swipe it if you have it you can still shop without one. If your store is a fair distance from you maybe best to give them a call to check it is definately in place in all stores.

Whenever I go they want you to have a card. They can the details off the computer if you already have one rather than sign you up for a new one. Apparently they say you can shop without one but none of the special offers would work. So say they had 2 T-Shirts for £5 you would have to pay full price for each one if you didn't have a card

Best to call your local branch then as it seems different from store to store as I was definately told they were not needed anymore but are swiped if you have one. There was no mention of discounts or times when it would be needed so give them a call to check first.

Whenever I've gone in without my card, I ask for a "day ticket". They just take your name & postcode- quick & simple.

I went into Matalans the other weekend, and they searched my details on their computer and reluctantly accepted. They were trying to get me to sign up with another card though.

ok def must vary from branch to branch as I just called my local one and they again confirmed the card is not neccessary but is prefered. They could not say about other branches for sure but thought it was a policy in all stores now.

My local branch insists on the card. I don't really understand the whole card thing. When Matalan first started I was told that they only managed to get goods at such cheap prices by saying they were a club with members. Now that the high street is full of even cheaper shops I wonder what reason they give.

The last time I went in the weren't going to let me have my student discount as I didn't have my matalan card with me (they'd given me a day pass). I said fine, but I'm not going through with the purchase, a quick discussion with manager and discount was given.

i used the Lancaster branch at Easter and said i had no card and they just asked me to sign a 'day membership card'- literally took 1 minute-no sales chat.
