Interview advice for River Island

Have an interview tomorrow, seeing as I never get the job I must be rubbish at interviews. What should I wear (is a white shirt and dark grey okay? brown shoes?), and what answers do I need ready?

I don't have any nice black shoes, or black trousers

I have 3 years retail experience but not in fashion.

Its also only temp (they said only for a month so whats the point?), hours are only 10-20 hours a week.

BUT they said if I impress then maybe they will keep me on, I think thats an empty promise though I bet they are just needing someone to cover holiday.

Anyway, any tips and advice???

Thanks

Grey and brown shoes?? Certainly not!

Normaly it wouldn't make a difference, but it might be important as you are going into fashion.. Don't really know.

I think I would try my best and make sure I am talking with my most pleasant tone of voice and smiling a lot.. (without looking like an idiot:-)) as that is what they are looking for in customer faced environment...

But I guess you already know that. You do have some experience in retail so use that when they ask you why do you think you are the one for the job.

Be confident as well, so says my pals little sister who works for them. It might not seem right, but apparently you have to be quite trendy with what you wear (god I sound old!)

They will probably ask you questions like when have you worked in a team, about past jobs and why you want the job. I honestly wouldn't worry too much - just be confident and polite and I am sure you will do well.

    Good luck!!

Oh yeh, it was a stockroom position I applied for, they didn't tell me much on the phone, only that it would be price changing for the sales they are going to have. Not sure if i would actually be on the shop floor

I would wear trendy clothes, but not scruffy - you still have to look smart and well presented. Its a fine line!

    smart, trendy

they wont want to see someone in a typical interview outfit, of blouse, black trousers/skirt and black shoes

just look at the River Island website, to see what they sell . So short, floaty summer dresses or 50s inspired floral numbers, dressy clubbing gear, etc. Anything that makes you stand out, and shows you have a 'style'

youll get a uniform allowance - they will expect you to maybe wear their clothes, but they will give you a MASSIVE discount on them - plus you get to keep them forever!

A dressy shirt would be nice with some cool shoes and skinny jeans maybe? I honestly would not dwell on it too much - they liked you enough to offer you an interview so I am sure you will get the job :P
  • Any river island I go in the staff always wear either trousers/jeans and a generic river island T shirt - normally quite tight

Tbh from what you have posted on here not a chance you will get the job. River Island etc is all about being trendy, young etc.
