Hi All
Does anyone have any experience of replacing their lead water supply pipe?
Ours is lead and we are not sure whether we need to replace it? Is this costly?
Thanks

Good afternoon: Have you asked the RGI who is fitting your boiler (mentioned on your other thread) as he would be best placed to advise on necessity and cost.

Hello again Canucklehead
To be honest it slipped my mind to mention it to him. Might see what he says.
Thanks0 -
I had one done a few years back and it was a few hundred quid.
My mums house is still lead and a few months back a guy came to test the water for lead whilst I was there. He said that they no longer bother with the lead replacement scheme ( if you fit the new pipe to the property they would connect it for free ) as there is not much lead in the water anymore. They also treat the water to prevent the lead from being picked up with the water.
If you want to save a few quid, just run the tap for a short while in the morning, so that any water that has been left in the lead pipe flushes through.0 -
My mum always made me run the tap when I was little. I've grown up doing that - still alive!
(and still doing it out of uncontrolable habit and a weird sense of comfort)
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

We paid £600 pounds this involved digging to holes and using a mole (machine) to take the plastic water pipe from the supply into the garage.0

No, don't bother doing it.0 -
It is advisable to replace lead pipework. Lead has long been known as a toxic substance that can cause illness in people who have been exposed to large amounts. Research suggests that much lower levels of lead in the body may have an effect, particularly on mental development in the young. – just what I’ve read.....
Replacing lead pipe work can improve the flow of water to your property.0 -
