void payment debited from my account?

hi hope someone can help i payed my car to be serviced on my debit card but as the transaction went through i changed my mind and had the payment voided. But the money came out my account. I phoned up barclays and they said that the payment would show up again on my statement after 12 working days. So has anyone else had a payment voided and the money come out their accounts and how long did you have to wait for the money to be returned?

Hi there

This used to happen a lot when I worked in a pub. If the card systems were busy payments often failed and had to be put through again so even though the first was voided, customers had two debits from their account.

The voided payment was usually returned within 3 working days. The card company explained it was because when we requested payment, the money was put aside, sort of 'on hold' until the payment was actually authorised by us pressing the accept button after we received the customers signature. This 'hold' would appear as a debit to the customers account and unfortunately took a few days to reverse.
