New TV Aerial

Our TV reception is rubbish, obviously not helped by our back garden being surrounded by very big oak trees (not ours so we can't cut them down).

Having done a bit of research and looking at the TV aerial on our house I think an upgraded aerial and cabling would help, plus possibly aiming it another TV mast (not one behind the trees) would also help.

At the moment we have a very basic aerial (no doubt fitted when the house was built 20 years ago) and the cable runs down the outside of the house. The aerial input in the house is a wall mounted (un-shielded) plate which also would need replacing.

Are there any TV aerial folk on here who could advise on a rough price for replacing aerial, replacing cable with decent quality cabling and fitting new shileded plate in the lounge?

Many thanks
:D

If you don't mind me asking where do you live (City or County would be fine so i can get an idea how it might compare when I get a quote).

    Thanks

    I live in Scarbough

The installer was a local aerial/sat installer

We didnt have a new mast just two aerials which may be cheaper and we live in a 3 bedroom semi. Both aerials are on a mast on chimney

They came back late last year and fitted a new lnb and twin cable just above bay window into living room for £50-£60 I supplied the gear

I paid £200 for a (very) tall Ariel in NW London last year.

Did that include any re-wiring or other work?

Just throwing this into the pot, but you can get freesat installed for something like £80 - more channels than freeview and a much better chance of getting a better picture...

    Thanks,

But our SKY dish points the opposite direction to the TV aerial and this is also blocked by large trees. Reception is fine in the winter when the leaves fall off, but in the summer we are in a real TV blackspot. I am assuming the freesat dish would have the same issues?

Indeed, however whilst the channel line up on Freesat is larger than Freeview, it is nowhere near as good IMO.

    I have both.

Just checked the FAQ on the freesat website:

Q: I can't get Sky, am I likely to be able to receive freesat?

A: freesat uses Astra 2 at 28.2 east and Eurobird at 28.5 east - this is the same broadly south-easterly direction as with the Sky service, so it unfortunately sounds like you will be unable to receive freesat as well.

Off topic, I know - but what do you miss on freeview? Dave?
