unauthorised o/d and charges

my partner has admitted to using my debit card just in time as the police were about to be called.
without going into too much detail.
I usually dont have a problem with this as she has used it countless times previously and paid back promptly. However, this time she has used all my available funds leaving me with nothing to honour MY direct debits with and thus resulting in charges and creating an unauthorised o/d in the process. She has dropped the bombshell that does not have the ability to return the funds until next month when she recieves her salary.
what on earth im a going to do?
the charges will be astronomical by next month and will surely dwarf any money she can give me by that time????

Contact your bank, if you've not had goodwill before they may refund some, if not all of the charges. I wouldn't advised telling them your wife used your debit card because that just sounds complacent on your part. Failing that, I would take this on the chin, you're both adults and you're both partly responsible.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -
If the Direct Debits haven;t already come out cancel them and contat the companies individually, make an arrangement to pay them via debit card over the phone for this month at a time when you have funds in the account and ask them to reinstate Direct debit. Maybe you can make an arrangement to pay a little extra each month to make up the payment that was missed and then keep a tight hold on your debit card. Who am i to judge but i would never put my husband in that position and hope and expect he wouldn't do me!0

I don't think the bank will return the fees because it sounds as though you told her your pin number at some point... which is obviously against rules of the bank cards!0

Since nobody else has said it, I feel I must chime in and say that you should prosecute to the full extent of the law, and that only tough love will help her now. What would William Shatner do?0
