I need to transfer data from a USB 1 port onto a transferable stick. What is the easiest way to transfer data, and be able to read it after? Thanks in advance for your help.

Need to clarify the situation. You should be able to see the device in explorer and copy the data on as with any device.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

Sorry to be vague. The data is on a security camera hard drive(potential evidence unwittingly captured), police have requested a copy of some of the data .
I tried copying on to USB 2 stick, but computer not able to read data (windows XP), would prefer to copy data, as police may take hard drive otherwise.
Thanks again0 -
What sort of HDD is the data on? I can't see where the problem will arise as all USB2 devices are backwards compatible with USB1.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

Not sure. I'd need to check.
If USB2 devices are backwards compatible, I will try again later ( that has helped enourmously). I got confused as I was asked to purchase a USB 1 memory stick by OH.
Police are calling later, will do it then with them.
Thank-you for your help0 -
What was the data recorded onto? Is the HDD internal or external? Really need to know.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

Data transferred to operational box/unit which stores information,. Not connected to a conventional computer/ another external hard drive , just camera and TV screen, with a rolling 2 week memory internally.
It is a stand alone box with a memory if that makes sense.0 -
are there any connections on the camera box, to allow you to connect it to a pc
then with it connected to the pc and if you can see the data you would therefore be able to copy the data.0 -
Not sure.Location of box tricky, for obvious reasons
I think initially I copied the wrong data as I was nervous that I would erase in error (i.e. sound instead of video) and then thought usb stick not compatible.
Guy who initially installed unit is on his way, so I'll let him go through it with hubby.
Thanks a lot for your help0
