packing advice

i am trying to pack a suitcase and minimise creasing of clothes as i will have no access to an iron for the week unless i pay for a laundry service (not very mse) i have tried to save some space by putting swimwear, underwear and socks into ziplock bags and squeezing the air out. My Oh said that it might look strange when it ges through xray and they might search the case and take everything out which obviously will ruin my crease free clothes!
has anyone done the ziplock bag method of packing before? does it make your case look like it is full of bags of drugs? :rotfl:
Also any tips for crease free packing would be much appreciated.

thanks i had already read through that thread but i couldn't find out the answer to my question about packing clothes in small packages and ziplocking the air out0

I have no idea, although I would seriously doubt it. I do know that if they do decide to open them to check you will be left to repack the suitcase, probably in a hurry so make sure it is possible once the air is let back in.0

I use zip-locks, however, stuff does come out creased! The issue with ziplocks is to save space ... however, it doesn't save weight ... so you might inadvertently 'overpack' your case, and not realise it. Ziplocks are fab when you're travelling on the cheaper airlines with handluggage only and need to squeeze lots into a small bag.
The cheapest ziplocks I have found are in "in-store" and are £2.99 for a pack of 2.
BTW, remember, if you're relying on this method for space saving, you need access to a hoover the other end to do the same in reverse for coming home.

they aren't the ones you suck air out of with a hoover they are just small sandwich bag type ones so i have only used them for socks, underwear and swimwear. my theory is it will be less items in the case to crease the larger items of clothing like trousers and shirts.0 -
I roll rather than fold.
Also I have a cheap iron from Argos (real travel ones are useless) & a ironing pad from Lakeland.
thanks i had thought about rolling things up i have some in a drawer that have been rolled a couple of days so i will get them out later and assess the creasage!
i can't have an iron at all as i am going on a cruise and they are not allowed in cabins due to health and safety regulations. So unfortunately it's either don't iron or pay someone to do it :mad:0 -
Pack with the heaviest items on the bottom. When I'm going away my suitcase/rucksack always goes: shoes, heavy gadgets, wash bag, jeans/other things made of denim, hoodies, light skirts, cardigans, shirts/tops/T-shirts etc, socks and undies. It does make a considerable difference as then your clothes don't get crushed. Rolling helps as well though."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0

Is it real Health & Safety or a nice little earner?
I would still be tempted to pack my tiny iron.0 -

hmm i did wonder that myself but i'm not going to take one because it will be a small cabin without much space and with a rambunctious toddler running around there is more chance of an accident. If it had just been the 2 of us i think i would have been more likely to smuggle one on board :rotfl:0
