I just bought a 320GB Western digital portable hard drive…
What is the best way to keep backs to the hard drive? In terms if I copy my Desktop folder of photos etc called “Folder ABC” and copy this to Drive.
After a few months to back up the current “Folder ABC” that has new material…do I delete the previous Folder ABC on portable Drive and then copy over new drive? Or is there another more efficient method?
(there is back up software on the drive unit pre-installed, but not idea how to use the software, and if I run the software will the drive still work with other computers (e.g laptop, work etc)

Try using synctoy, a free program from Microsoft.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

Synctoy is more efficient as it will only move files that have changed, if you select the right mode of operation.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

The bundled software will almost certainly not be synctoy, which is much better than most bundled backups.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

hi thanks for replies.
bundled software is Western digital own software.....but someone told me to eb careful as this might password and encrypt the data..which means the HD unit will only work on pcs with the same software installed.0
