Martin Lewis on GMTV said in April/May you can claim a one off £300 benefit, but I couldn't sign on then.
I can now sign on for jobseekers allowance, but I can't see this benefit mentioned anywhere.

LOl, I love the use of the word free and benefit in the same sentence. All benefits are free when you claim them.0

It's called the Adviser Discretionary Fund. £300 is the maximum available in any one year and it is meant to pay for items which could be a barrier to starting work,e.g interview clothes or a bus pass to actually get you to work.0

or if starting your own business, business cards, advertising etc BUT really you need to pay up front then claim it back, you can do it the other way but it's very rare0
