You can replace the HDD, but download treesize and use that to find out where the space is being used.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

You are confusing memory with hard disk space. You can buy a larger hard drive, or install a second drive, or use an external USB drive. But you still have 20% free space so I'm surprised you are getting these messages.
Have you Defragged and run Disk Clean Up recently?
If you want more memory (RAM) just go to crucial.com and use the system scanner to see what your upgrade options are.No free lunch, and no free laptop

CCleaner
Free Disk space by deleting restore points
Start button - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup - More Options.
You will have the option to delete all but the most recent restore points.
To permanently reduce the space System Restore takes up, right click 'My Computer' - properties and on the System Restore tab adjust the settings.0 -
if you have restore disabled, I would suggest you run a chkdsk C: /F and then reboot the computer and then see if that frees up anything.
Donnie is quite correct in using CCleaner, I would download the slim version, doesnt have the yahoo toolbar in it.
Also your internet folder would contain files aswell, called a cache, these are temporary file, can be cleaned with ccleanerl.
Also your recycle bin.
windows restore i believe will use upto and including 25% total of your drive space thats free by default, giving you less data storage.0 -
How old is the machine? does it have programs or games installed?
Im going assume it's running XP, as it's got only a small HDD.
As an example I have Halflife 2 installed on my second HDD, this alone takes up 30.8GB.
I have another game "Age of Conan" that takes up 18GB.
Normal software takes up far less, but it all adds up.
Try emptying your recycle bin. That could free up anything upto 3GB.
Use the run command and type in del "%temp%\*.*" /q /s to delete any temporary files, this MIGHT clean upto 5GB of useless files, especially if you download files or watch a lot of video's or online (they'll all be stored there temporarily, hence TEMP)
Very amusing when i get people saying "i don't know how i got this virus, i never look at internet !!!!!! sites or anything dodgy" and right there in the %temp% folder there are like 5000 movie clips lol :rotfl: but we don't say anything
OR you can do the above manually by typing explorer %temp% in the run command prompt and selecting what to delete.CCleaner

If you do this (and i would never suggest a novice using ccleaner), make sure also keep one of the earliest restore points too.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
