Employee advice business in administration

My brother and father work for a company that has just gone in to administration. Lots of rumours are flying round at the moment, however some are saying that pay owed before the administrators came in, is not the administrators liability therefore they will not be paid? is this right?
Where can you get real information from? the administrators seem unwilling to keep people informed.
Thanks for any advise or in put.
