Electronic Car Polisher / Buffer

Hi all,

seeing that the sun has come out (finally) I wanted to know if anyone on this board owns an electronic car buffer/polisher as I heard they work magic on the paint work with the right car polish and wax.

I've found the following cheapest ones:

Argos: RAC 230V Twin Handled Car Polisher £19.99
Challenge Car Polisher. £14.99
Amazon: Einhell BPM 500 Electric Car Polisher £19.98 Free delivery
Halfords: Halfords Car Polisher 12v £15.99
Halfords Car Polisher 240v £29.99 - ripoff.

Anyone own any of these?

However I have heard that cheaper Buffer's may actually harm your paint work, can anyone shed any light on this?

Forget these machines... good ones will be expensive & you'll, potentially do more damage, than good - it's so easy to polish through the paint, to primer, or metal!

Cheap ones are as described above.

I have a cordless one and its rubbish - I also have the mains version from Halfrauds (bought as a present) and I hardly use it.

As Vansboy says, invest in some good cleaning products. Meguirs or Autoglym is about the best readily available on the High street. I prefer better quality products.

Best thing you can buy is a clay bar - this removes all the rubbish off the paintwork. Followed by a wash using a lambswool or microfibre washmitt - never a sponge. A good polish/sealant and wax applied (in straight lines) with applicator pads and buffed off (in striaght lines) with good quality microfibre cloths are the best way to go. Only after a good few topcoats have been applied do I use the buffer.

A good finish is all down to the cleaning of the paintwork and lots of elbow grease.
