local shop - what would you do?

Ask them if you can pay a bit extra to have one that isn't part of a multipack.0

My Dad used to split multi packs when he sold out, rather than dissapoint the regulars.
A classic example is the weather, sometimes he would order outers of single cans and then we would have a really hot day, they would sell out, so he would split a multi pack. From his point of view it meant regular customers were still able to buy rather than heading off for the shop up the road.0 -

The same happened to me the other day with a cadburys caramel it was smaller than a normal sized one but at a lesser price, I'm not that bothered.

Our local shop sells its tobacco from multipacks, virtually every brand, there is no discount on the prices, there's another local to us that charge 10% extra on all items after 8pm, even before the deadline they charge for tobacco at their own inflated price.
They sell Big bottles of coke that say "50% extra free", at 50% more than the price on the bottle.
Guess which shop I refuse to go to
Tobacco is packed in multipacks. You can't order single pouches/packs. You open the packs to sell individually.0 -

It's really down to the manufacturers trying to control the market isn't it. By printing the price on bottles/cans, they are preventing any form of competition.
By the same token, if the retailler gets some goods that are in a multipack and splits them down to sell, I don't see the problem. The manufacturers only print "not for individual resale" to try and ensure retaillers only buy the more expensive individual cans. If they choose to ignore it, then tough.0 -
very interesting thread and ive looked up the most recommended action for this circumstance just in case you are in this situation in future.
if you dont want a product with 'not to be sold seperately' on it then follow these instructions very carefully:
dont buy it.Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)
new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,0000 -
The local shop is missing an opportunity surely? A customer comes in who is desperate for a can of coke and you have no singles only multipacks left. If they really want the coke a good sales person will point out how much cheaper per can the multi packs are and sell the multipack.
I know a local pub backing onto a pub was selling ice-creams like Magnum etc. at over double the RRP. A rival shop reported them to the supplier and the practice was stopped as it was a condition of supply that they did sell over the RRP~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)
