local shop - what would you do?

this is a dilemma.

yesterday i went into my local shop and bought a bottle of coke. the bottle was clearly labelled "multi-pack - not to be sold seperately". yet the bottles were all on display as being sold singley.

i bought the coke, and, despite getting the coke at a discounted price (???), i found myself feeling slightly ripped off (probably incongruently).

what would you do?

(i should add that when i've previously bought items, e.g. viscount biscuits, that have "100% free" on the label and i've been charged double.)

(i should also add that whilst this is a local shop it is also part of a chain - e.g. spar, aldi.)

    what's the problem??

    You wanted a coke.

You were happy with the price on the bottle/shelf.

    You bought it.

    You drank it.

Thats happened to me loads of times , when ive thought about it - I still got what i wanted which i prefer rather than the product not being available.
If i was you next time you are in another large store maybe actually buy the multi pack for a t home at the correct price, so you do not have to buy from the local again.

The local shop still probably paid more to the C&C for it, than Mr Tesco did; ie tesco make more pennies from you per bottle than your local.

So who's really the naughty one???

I had the same with a sandwich lady that came to offices I was at last week.

    I opened the coke.

    I drank it.

I carried on with my life.

I had this happen to me in Tesco in Hammersmith... I wanted a Sprite, they had a Sprite (ice cold) so I bought it, payed by card (so they had to pay a % anyway), and drank it on the bus. No biggie...

Would you have preferred them to say "Sorry, you'll have to buy the six pack?"

So why do manufacturers try to stop multipacks being sold as singles? We had this with baked beans recently.

I can see where you are coming from, and also, as far as I am aware these shops are not actually allowed to sell products singularly. It basically means they are making an even bigger profit than they would on the multi pack (ie say a single can is 60p, and a multi pack of 6 is £2).

Additionally, to pick up on your other point - if a pack has 100% extra FREE that is precisely what it is - extra for free - and therefore the shop should not be charging extra for it.

You say it is part of a "chain" such as Spar - therefore I would inform head office (not necessarily complain.)
