Strawberry picking

Hi , I don't know if anyone is interested but I was quite amazed at this so thought I would share with everyone.

Me and my dad went Strawberry picking today (probably the worst day we could have gone because of the heat but there we go) .

We paid £1.00 per punnet and I would say we got about 50 strawberrys per punnet , when I go back to mine i rinsed and blitzed them all - it made 3 large containers of strawberry puree which I have already frozen , turned some in to strawberry ice cream and will make a cheesecake tommorrow.

These will last me ages - just thought I would right this down as it was an enjoyable time spent with my dad and a real bargain , I know I wouldn't get that many strawberrys for £1.

On second thoughts this maybe better on old style money saving , I shall leave it to a mods descretion

I've always wanted to go strawberry picking but have never found anywhere near to me!

Does anybody know of any strawberry farms in/around Greater Manchester?

try www.pickyourownfarms.org.uk there you can find (hopefully) something in your area- good luck.
We found a new farm for strawberries (via the website) that were fantastic!! Big,juicy and very nicely priced...ended up with 3 large containers full and will go back this weekend for more

We go fruit picking at least twice a week. We're very lucky as we live in Suffolk and are surrounded by fruit picking farms and the one we use is owned by a lovely old couple. Being from Greater Manchester originally it is not something I ever did as a child and I love going as a family and picking and eating fruit that is so fresh.

Spotties , thanks for that link I shall have to have a better look tomorrow after work Im trying to find a pick your own mushrooms place but apparently these are unheard of???

I've been hunting for ages for PYO strawbs nearby, and not found anywhere (apart from my garden )

Kenyon Hall Farm is a bit of a drive, but has a good selection of cheap plants in addition to the PYO farm. (It's also where Northern Harvest, the online farm shop runs from.)

Haven't found anywhere particularly cheap, though. Most of them seem to be around £4 per kilo, which doesn't seem particularly great value.

We went strawberry picking 2 weeks ago. There was loads of them & they were only 85p a pound if I remember correctly. I'm going again this weekend, they had a later variety that hadn't started fruiting yet so should be able to go again in a couple of weeks. For anyone in the east midlands heres the link....

I didn't realise it was so popular!!

Can anyone share what they are doing with all this fruit, so far I have made a strawberry cheescake and a strawberry freezer cake, strawberry mouse and had some with ice cream. I made mine in to puree and tubbed it - well what I have made has only used 1 tub - any suggestions for all the rest

Strawberries all finished at my local PYO in North Kent...it was an early crop this year.

We got some redcurrants and blackcurrants and amazing cherries for £2.50...bargain!
