Static Caravan or Other Temporary Accommodation

Don't know if I am posting this in the right section. We have an apartment in Spain with a mortgage on our UK home which we must repay when we retire in 2 years time. At that time we will need to sell our UK home to make up the balance on our savings to pay off the mortgage as we want to keep our apartment in Spain and will not be able to keep up the mortgage payments after retirement even though our mortgage does not have to be repaid until my husband is 70 (8 yrs away, 6 at retirement).
However, now comes the crunch. We want to be able to come back to the UK for perhaps a couple of months at a time and thought about buying a static caravan but the stories I am reading about the rip-off caravan parks are putting me right off ! In any case I have read on numerous forums that they are a bad investment as you can only keep them on the site for a limited time and we would not have the funds to keep upgrading.
Anyone got any suggestions on what type of accommodation we should contemplate using as a part time home in the UK whilst visiting our kids and grandkids, bearing in mind we will be living on a state pension, tiny private pension (£50 per week) and some savings for emergencies. Staying with our kids is out as they still have our grandkids at home and have no room to put us up.
