We lived there in the 90s and I loved it. Great for planespotting :rotfl:
Our MQ was very close to the end of the runway. Very noisy but I enjoyed it.
St Andrews is nice and for more shopping, Dundee is very near. Do they still have the excellent Chinese or the kebab van coming to the gate? Yummy!0 -
Kebab van is long gone, plenty of little men to do deliveries though.0

Its a lovely part of 'jockland' as one of you put it.0

Good place, did 7 years there. Dundee just North, St Andrews just South and Edinburgh approx 40 minutes away by car or train. Plenty to see and do...if your not a golfer you probably will be PDQ. (Still prefer Lossie tho...a personal taste)
They also have a HIVE up there who can answer questions on local stuff like schools, MQ's etc.0 -
The right side of the cairngorms, but close enough to be able to get to them with little hassle.
With other RAF Jockland bases, they are just too far from civilisation. Leuchars though is right on the door step of some stunning scenery.
St A's is nice, and a whole lot better than slumming it with the neds of Dundee of a night! And if you like golf, well .........!Credit Card Debt

I do like the east nuke of Fife, however I must disagree with your comments.
It is quite civilised and picturesque around Lossie. IMHO Inverness has as much on offer as St Andrews / Scumdee. Lossie is a lot closer to Cairngorm National Park than Leuchars http://www.cairngorms.co.uk/thepark/maps/ :rotfl:"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Missile, never said they were closer than Lossie, merely than the are the right side of them - southern - and still close enough to get there!!
Elgin must have changed since I was there in 2003 - Aberdeen was really the only place to go to shop/eat out unless you submitted the the mahhousive Tescos outside Inverness!
And I'll not go into the openly overt discrimintation my wife suffered when trying to get a job in Elgin! Leuchars on the other hand was positivley welcoming by comparison.Credit Card Debt

I am a 'bloody foreigner' and my first place to live in Britain was Leuchars and it took me 7 months to get a job. No such problem in Elgin. Got one straight away. A friend who lives in St Andrews said that you need local connections to get a proper job. If you have those they will come to you instead of you looking for a job...
I don't know what kind of jobs your wife was looking for. I guess I'm at the bottom end of the jobmarket0
