Housing benifit help?

Hi there

My landlord wants me to cash my HB cheque at the local cash convertors as he needs the money asap!

Is this ok to do, Or is it illigal?

I have no idea whether or not it is legal, but why pay fees when he can have it in a few days through the normal channels?

Show him the cheque so he knows it is coming and then pay it onto your bank.

Pay it through his bank, that way you will have a record of payment should any future dispute arise.

    Are you behind with rent?
Would this mean him getting it early?

You will lose money by going through cash converters.

    More information needed really.

It's not illegal for you to cash the cheque anywhere/anyhow you like and give him the money any way you want .... the question really is whether you're behind, whether you've been behind before, whether you'd technically be a candidate for being slung out if he didn't get the amount on time.

Personally I'd want to help him, but would plead poverty (losing the money by using cash converters) and make him wait unless he was prepared to take it less the fees ... but it all depends on whether you are behind or right up to date.

You want to check who is covering the fees. All very well him saying he is not bothered - he doesn't need to be, it is you that is obliged to pay the rent in full.

If you pay less than the full amount, he can still demand the amount outstanding.
