Barclaycard ATM problem.

I discovered that there was going to be a delay with my salary, so I had to top up my bank account at the end of October. £500 withdrawn from a local ATM machine, using my Barclaycard on 29th, then again on 30th October, with no difficulties. However, on the 1st November, after entering the pin number and the amount required a message appeared on the ATM screen to the effect that the ‘transaction could not be continued. Contact your credit card centre.’ Credit card then removed, and the screen then ‘cleared’. Two other customers were waiting to use the ATM . I then got the money by using from my other credit card later that day. Received statement from Barclaycard a few weeks later, and it claimed that £500 had also been issued to me on the 1st November.

I wrote to them and explained what had happened, but I was still then required to complete a ‘dispute’ form. Received a letter early in December stating that the £500 had been credited to my account, but that they were ‘still looking into the transactions ‘ ( their wording. ).

At the end of January I received a letter from ‘Barclaycard Fraud Disputes’ stating that the money in question had been dispensed. They had not answered the two points I had raised in my very first letter to them; namely that there had to be a record of the original rejection message on the ATM screen in either their system, or Lloyds TSB or Visa’s computer system. In addition, if the money had been dispensed, then the system should show when it was issued i.e. to the exact second, revealing whether this was before or after my credit card had been removed, and before the next customer ( who was in a wheelchair ) could even start to conduct their business. I wrote back to them asking them to respond to the two points I had raised. In addition, I had taken absolute exception to seeing the word ‘Fraud’ in their letter, and I commented about this in my letter too.

At last they have now sent me photocopies from VISA and Lloyds TSB computer print outs stating that the ‘transaction was a success’, and they have debited me with the £500, and interest charges.

If anyone has had a similar problem with any ATM transaction would you please post the outcome on this forum.

I'm posting this again in the hope that more folk will see it today, being a Sunday. If anyone else has had the same sort of problem could you post details, or send me a private e-mail. Thanks again to the two private messages received.
