Monument credit cards

I have just recieved a letter from a recognised credit recovery agancy. They claim that I have a bad debt on a monument credit card going back to 2005 in another region from where I live. I assume they have had it passed to them by a 3rd party. The total they are claiming is £1212.64 This is including charges and such. Due to them only finding my details on a credit reference site they claim unless I prove its not me they will instigate action. They have requested I send them a legal document that includes my signature. They will then request the original agreament and try to match the signatures. Is this a normal legal practice, and I would have no idea if what they claim is wrong. I am also not sure who they are acting for. As far as I am aware Barclays sold the Monument card to Raffael Bank which I believe is owned by Compu Credit Of USA, wich is being investigated by there Government for fraudulent accounting. You cant even access the Monumet site it says Tempeary unavailable

Lol, they have to prove you owe the debt, it's not for you to disprove a spurious accusation.
Is it a spurious accusation or did you owe a debt and move address without paying it?
Only deal with them in writing, keep copies of all correspondence and send all of yours by recorded delivery. Keep a note of the time and costs you spend and if it goes all the way you can recover it from them with interest."A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five." - Groucho Marx0 -
