I am at my wits end, can anyone help. I cannot receive my email via either windows mail or thunderbird. My settings are correct, I have checked via webmail that my username and password are correct. I have tried with firewall and antivirus disabled (comodo and avira). MBAM finds nothing. Just occasionally I get authorisation and my mail gets through, but usually I get the following error codes and I get asked to verify credentials, which are saved to the account. Account: 'pop.freeserve.com', Server: 'pop.freeserve.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: ' Disconnect because authentication to back server is too long', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92 Account: 'pop.freeserve.com', Server: 'pop.freeserve.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [IN-USE] Unable to lock maildrop', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92 Can anyone offer any help, please. PS Why cant I put extra lines in to break up my post

You could try upgrading from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail. That's the email client that I use with Vista. I have three email addresses set up there and have no problems.
Have never used Thunderbird so not sure how that works.
Another alternative - if the problem has just started to occur you could 'restore' back to a date when it worked.
Someone may be along who can give more help.
Good luck0 -

Well, tried live mail, same problem. Might have to try a restore point.Gas doc on the loose0

Could Thunderbird be conflicting with your email client? Have the two programmes worked together previously. I use Internet Explorer 7 and Live Mail and they seem alright.0

Thanks for the help Libra10, Ive found the problem. No software conflicts, just a dumb problem - I feel stoopid now. Accessed the webmail and found over 3000 emails, all spam. My spam automatically directs to a spam folder that I empty, but dont mark as read so all were apparently still on the server. Deleted it all and problem solved. Thanks again for the help.Gas doc on the loose0
