replacing a lost debit card

Hello, can anyone tell me why it takes my bank the Abbey 10 days to send me a new visa debit card. They tell me it is something to do with FSA regulations which sounds like a load of old guff to me.
Also they didn't tell me when I reported the card as lost that this meant I would also be unable to access my account online.
When I called to complain about the above I was simply told that this is how long it takes and not offered any kind of an apology or attempt to speed things up.
grateful for any advice. Am now reduced to going to a branch (not convenient) to take out cash for the next 10 days and unable to do any online transactions.
thank you

Well the card needs to be printed and embossed then sent to you maybe this is how long it takes but as the card is a benefit of having the account and you are not entitled to it if they decided not to give you one then you should just wait.

It affects your online banking with abbey because you can use the card number to log on, but I believe you can use your alternate user ID?

I mislaid my Visa debit card a month or so ago. I reported it in branch on the Wednesday afternoon and received a replacement in the post on the following Friday morning, (42 hours later).

Not Abbey I'm afraid but Nationwide. For once I was forced to concede that they were on the ball.

Just be pleased they didn't charge you for losing your card.

Hardly the bank's fault that you lost the card.

Nationwide, Halifax, Amex, LTSB and Egg have all managed to send me replacements within 2-3 working days. (Yes - I had all those cards in my wallet at once :/ ) No restrictions that I noticed with accessing online accounts, except Halifax who needed the new card number before I could continue.

    Abbey have different procedures perhaps?
