refused all benefits please help

Options
My disabled partner & I have been refused ESA, Income support, and I am awarded only £2.00 per week for JSA, my partner can receive DLA at the higher rate But it will not start untill 01/09/2009, at the moment we receive £86.00 Housing benefit pw & £81.00 from abroad pw. it looks to me like their forcing me to look for work but I care for my partner fulltime & do not feel this is right. my only crime was to live in Spain for 4 years. we are trying to sell our home in Spain, but the market is dreadfull at the moment, is this right or wrong.
If I was told all this 16 weeks ago I would`nt mind, but to be told only today is a bit of a worry for us..

Thanx for reading

  • I cant understand why you say your partner wont receive DLA until 1/9/2009?If DLA has been awarded it would have been back dated and not post dated.
Owning property abroad and getting a weekly income is probably why you dont get as much benefit as you might.

So you receive Jobseeker's Allowance, Housing Benefit, presumably Council Tax Benefit and DLA (after 6 months ?)

So, like, why did you start the thread by saying you've been refused all benefits, you've been anything but ?

What's the income you've got from abroad ?

Don't think Carer's will kick in until your partner starts getting DLA ...

    Thanx woodbine,
The reason my partner cant receive DLA untill 01/09/2009 is weve been out of the country too long (4 years) & she has to wait 6 months for it to start.

    Thanx pesky.
I can get carers but not untill sept when she receives her DLA.

my income from Spain is rent money £81.00 pw so we can pay our rent here in the uk.

we wouldnt mind the rejection, but to be told 16 weeks later to me is beyond a joke,

    ulala.....yawn

    And rightly so.

If you have been out of the country for that long, and you gain an income from a house abroad, it isn't unreasonable to not pay you.
To have 2 houses and also want benefits is playing the system just a bit i am sure you will agree.

Did either of you work while you lived in Spain? What did you live on for 4 years? did you pay into the Spanish social security system?

So I assume you get a few pounds JSA to make your income up after the rent from Spain, plus housing benefit and presumably council tax benefit. Not bad really after no contributions for several years.

Did you pay UK tax and NI whilst in Spain? Did you look at trying to claim any benefits in Spain before you came back to the UK?
