You have bought an ADSL router, designed for BT lines, not cable.. The DSL/cable ones are £20 cheaper. Are you able to take it back and swap it?

There should be an ethernet port on the Dell PC. The blue lead fits into it.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
hi yes it is from pc world so i hopefully will be able to swap it.i might be being thick but im sure i havent got a ethernet connection point(pc is about 6 years old)0

The router has 4 identical ports, your PC should have the same port, looks like a modem port only bigger.. Dells have had them built in for years.

The laptop will have one anyway, so you can use that to set it up.
If the laptop has wireless built in, and the PC is near the phone point, then you won't need the additional wireless adapter, as the PC can be plugged in directly.
It is NTL cable, isn't it?

NETGEAR WGR614 54MBPS CABLE/ DSL WIRELESS ROUTEREver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
yes it is ntl cable and has a big white cable from the phone point to my modem0

You might be able to get it to work, but if PC World is nearby, then I'd take it back and swap it for a NETGEAR WGR614 54MBPS CABLE/ DSL WIRELESS ROUTER or similar, and save yourself some money.
As already mentioned, if the PC is next to the phone point, and the laptop has wireless built-in, you could wire the PC instead of using wireless, and get a refund on the wireless adapter you have bought..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
thanks albertross im off to pcworld to swap it for the one you mentioned as i think ive got the wrong one0

These guys seem to be a bit cheaper as they have free delivery. Anyone used them? I'm after the same thing.
