For Heaven's sake DO NOT send your coin in to the London Mint for a measley £50 - they are a coin collecting company that has NOTHING to do with The Royal Mint that prints the money!
If they are willing to pay £50, just think how much they will sell the coins on for at collectors fairs, and in special commemorative collectors packs over the next few years (check the link above)!
If The Royal Mint really wanted a recall, they would never limit it to 'the first 100,000' (or whatever it is) they would either want them all recalled (and would do this via the banks) or not bother at all - it IS legal tender after all.
The Royal Mint always replaces damaged money at face value and do not give out 'rewards' for returns!
However, if you do register with The London Mint (you do not actually have to have a 20p) they will send you a nice presentation box for when you sell it yourself in 5 years time to a coin collector for a couple of grand
Keep looking (remember it has to be the new style coin with the shield, not the old tudor rose) and be lucky :TLearning to live with an IVA - no overdraft - no credit cards - no safety net - very very scary _pale_ All advice gratefully received! :A0 -

Don't they know for sure how many they minted then? Or is that just an estimate of those still in circulation?0 -
These coins have been circulateing for a while they are in fact 2008 coins the first ones were reported at about christmass time 2008 and the new 2009 coins don't appear in circulation till about july 2009
I personally have searched through about £15, 000 of 20p pieces from the time this was first reported and found 5 which went on ebay.
When the fuss dies down they will nearly all taken out of circulation - but the trouble is there are very few people interested in decimal coins + the fact at this is all media hype
I would expect the coins to be worth £6 - £10 ech in a couple of years - there are plenty arround0 -
I banked over 6000 of them last week in work, faaaar too many to sift through.
However i am banking approx another 3000 of them tomorrow, i may have a rummage to see.:D0 -

There's even a question quoted at the bottom;
Q: Obviously all of these have date on reverse side, ? Dates Please !
A: Yes - they are all dated on the reverse. They are dated pre-2004
