The Silent Phone Agony - Anybody Suffering It?

I know that some people are going to have a right go at me for this but here goes.
I think that charity begins at home, and although in the past I have done favours for people, there has been very little reciprocation. I will be polite to people, open doors for them, but I will not do a free days work for anyone.
When was the last time that Gordon Brown, Tony Blair or Fred Goodwin ever gave their services for free, because they could afford to, more than anyone else in this economic mess. Why not ask one of the many executives/bankers/speculators to give up their time for free, but please do not expect charity from those who are least able to give it.
An hour of anyone's time is worth the same to that individual whether they are rich or poor. Giving something that is a sacrifice whether it is time or money is a greater charitable deed than giving something you won't miss. If you do good deeds in the expectation of something in return from those that you do the good deeds for then you are doing them for the wrong reason. You may disagree however

I totally agree with the first part of your post, but let us just say that I have become "jaded" and "World weary" as I have become older. In my younger years I never did anything expecting that I would get rewarded or praised, I simply did it because it seemed right at the time.
I still see people who I have helped in the past, and they know my present situation, but that does not stop them from trying to take advantage of me. We sadly live in a country where a lot of people expect something for nothing.0 -
Love it

Look, mate, I don't know what you're trying to prove, but I can assure you that it is NOT my intention to, as you so misguidedly put it, "start the same thread each week and then sits back and watches everybody snipe etc. etc." For your information, matey - I have spending ALL week trying to get myself a bleeding job in this depressing economic climate! Yes, mate, I repeat: TRYING TO GET A JOB!!!!
You know, with all due respect, mate - you seem to have something against me, and seem to have NO understanding whatsoever of the plight of an unemployed person.
I honestly don't know what you want me to say every day. Do you want me to start screaming from the rooftops "Hooray, I've got a job at last!" HUH! I wish!Love it

Don't despair, although I have a job I can imagine how frustrating it must be for you from when I trying to get a job after uni
But be proactive ring them (can you ring form the job centre so that the calls are free) even if its just to ask them have they received your application,
Good luck
I'm not sure how you equate the above post with Radish72 apparently "having something against you"? Having read through this thread I think Radish72 has been pretty helpful and courteous...
For what it's worth I – and no doubt others – find your weekly rants tiresome, and far from suggestive that you are actually doing anything to find a job. Yes I get it: we're in a recession and by virtue of that there are fewer jobs available, but in the brief periods when I have been unemployed I have spent my time on the internet LOOKING for jobs or means of upskilling myself rather than posting pointless rants on forums.
Too easy I know, but I'd prefer it if you didn't say something EVERY DAY – I neither need nor am interested in getting daily updates on your life.I honestly don't know what you want me to say every day.
If I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.0 -
Hey Truegho
Try total jobs (search on jobs in Merseyside and you'l find it)
I've just looked and they have 353 admin jobs in Merseyside, they even give the name of the company, so you could ring the company direct and not go through the agency and ask about the jobs
If I was rude and had something against you I would be writing " but you'll know about all these jobs as you have already applied"
My point was that everyone gives you advise which granted you probably already know, but theres never any post about what you have done each day " phoned up 3 companys, posted off 5 CV's"Mortgage Aug 12 £165K, Aug 19 £0

You should try the online applications for companies like Boots, Argos, McDonalds and hombase and try trawling shops for jobs - quite a few smaller companies don't advertise, or big companies might not have updated the website in a while. It's a Longshot and they might not be the OMG PERFECT JOB but, in this economic climate - anything's better than nothing, right? Is there anybody here unemployed and suffering THE SILENT PHONE SYNDROME, day in and day out? You no doubt know what I mean: you are desperate for a job, and after applying for numerous vacancies online, you hope that at least SOME employer or agency will ring you up.
But you wait . . . and you wait . . . and you wait . . . but NOTHING. The phone stays silent, and yet another soul-destroying, demoralising day ends with you being stuck in a rut that you begin to fear, more and more, that you will NEVER get out of!
