your Opinions please on my website

Hi All,

I've just designed my own website from home. It's pretty basic but does the trick ... i think!

Can you take a look if at http://www.onlineauto.co.uk/
if you have a spare 5 minutes and provide some constructive critiscm please!

If anyone is viewing the site from a laptop...is the writing incorrectly spaced? I've checked on a few pc's and seems to be fine but a friend has a laptop and told me it the wording was all over the place?!

many thanks for any help

    On first impressions your site does look pretty good.

    However, I think that the writing is a bit too big (maybe its just me)

    On the used vechicles page there is only three vechicles yet the page seems to keep going, would help if the blank area underneath was cut down.

    Also i think that the index page it would look better if there was no picture underneath the "Thank-you for visiting....." bit! :-/

    Sorry these are just small things but I couldn't really see anything else....

    Hope it helped you though

    Just had a quick look at the home page. I would find the text in the black box more pleasing to read if it was 'justified' in format, rather than just wrapped around the icons as it currently is. Looks good tho.

    HTML could do with a tidy up. Dreamweaver produces c**p code (but nowhere near as bad as Fireworks or FrontPage).

    e.g.

    remove irrelevant comment tags ( e.g. <!--DWLayoutDefaultTable--> )

    remove Javascript and put it into a separate file. (Javascript files are cached so it also improves the load time).

    Font and strong tags definitely needs tidying.

    No Alt tags?

    Put a proper contact form in with a thank you page. (I'd recommend using formmail.php to process the data from the contact form).

    Any links apart from the one on this page :P ?

    Wow it's early in the morning and my head hurts already and thats before I sat down to read the above!

    I'm afraid I only have a very basic grasp of this whole web design thing - so:

    1) what are strong tags
    2) what are alt tags
    3, how does the contact form work ie. can i download a form template and how does/what does the formail.php do and where can i find it?

    Sorry for all the questions and thanks for all the advice.

    p.s i will undersatnd if you can't be arsed to school me!

    cheers

    Ah, so you don't know HTML.

    I'll try and get back to you later today (got to do some paid work first).

  • alt tags are added to images so if the person has turned off images or has sight problems and has the text of the site read to them then a brief description of the picture is given.

    For example <img src="images/cts-v%20-%20sweet.jpg" width="276" height="155">

    with an alt tag would become

    <img src="images/cts-v%20-%20sweet.jpg" alt="Cadillac CTS-V" width="276" height="155">

    If you're using Dreamweaver MX then you'll notice that when you click on an image then you can also specify the Alt text.

    I'm using a laptop and the text seems to be set out fine. To encourage more visitors why not run a competition?
