In their defence (although I have not always been entirely happy with callout times etc) these policies are worth their weight in gold for the right things. I had them out to fix a leaking toilet at 10pm one night, although they did a temp fix to stop the leak and came back the next day it would have cost me a fortune to call someone out without the contract. We have also had them out about 4 times on Christmas Day, over the years this itself has paid for the contracts.
To make life easier, make sure that BG has an up to date contact number for you. You can call them first thing and confirm the appointment for that day, and ask them to call you half an hour before they are due to arrive.

The only issues I've had with not turning up is through untied util on meter replacement, and that's not down to BG.

That's in line with my experiences. My boiler room did not meet the new ventilation standards(it did when I took out their cover) so they fitted new ventilation grids free of charge. A substantial task which involved cutting a hole though a brick wall.

Mind you its not fashionable to give BG any praise on this forum!

I've been really pleased with British Gas Homecare over the fifteen years at least that we've had them. They'ver always turned up when they say they will and alwways done the job.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

I have been pleased this last year with them. They came out promptly for the service and my leaking feed/expansion tank.

My only gripe is everytime they visit they say I should think about getting a new system, my system is 13 years old but I wont be changing it if they can keep fixing it plus I still believe its got some life in it yet.

I have to agree with most of the above comments. We took out the Homecare to cover the central heating 3 years ago and have now upgrade to the electrics and plumbing. Although expensive it has been worth it's weight in gold, if only to know you have someone to call in an emergency and knowing you are not being ripped off by someone saying work needs doing when it doiesn't. We have always foung the employees polite and helpful, although the call out time could be quicker. Maybe the engineers who haven't turned up at others houses have gone to an emergency instead? I know from experience of having water pooring through the ceiling that I wouldn't mind waiting a litttle longer if that was the case. I would objct strongly though if I had waited in without a phone call to say the engineer was late or delayed.
