Are there any printers available that use white ink? This would be for printing onto acetate for OHP slides, modelmaking etc.
I know ALPS used to do something but can't find much info on them at the moment.

Only large format commercial printers I think.
Quoted from desktoppub.com
"There used to be a desktop printer that used a dry white ink ribbon (ALPS) but it is no longer manufactured. As of the moment, no desktop printers that print white ink are on the market as far as I know."
eBay has a MD-4000 on at the moment ... Item no. 6866079114
Yahoo group here ... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/alpsdecal/ which may give you some help.

Why would you want white ink for OHP slides? No ink is needed to produce white! That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I agree, if there was any white on an OHP it would appear black on screen as it wouldn't allow any light through?!??
Unless of course you want to print white on an OHP for something other than using an OHP.If you're feeling down, you must be holding a duck.0 -
Yes, sorry about the confusion.
My brother is currently manufacturing things you can stick onto the side of model trains to turn them into different ones. See his website for the concept. At the moment he's having to print onto white acetate and "colour in" the windows but a lot of his customers would like clear ones.
Trouble is most trains have some white on them as well. Can I help?0 -
Can you get away with a very light grey - RGB all around 230 (out of max values 255) or a light yellow Red/Green at 255, Blue around 200.
If you go into Word, select Format/Font from the menu. Drop down the Font Colour box and select More Colors (yuk), then go to the Custom tab and play with the Red, Green, Blue settings (can fine-tune with the Sat(uration) and Lum(inance) settings.0 -
If it was me, yes, but we're talking serious model railway enthusiasts here! I know people who can see a train go past and quote you the Pantone equivalents of the coloursManAtHome wrote:Can you get away with a very light grey - RGB all around 230 (out of max values 255) or a light yellow Red/Green at 255, Blue around 200.

http://www.dpandi.com/newsreviews/reports/tradeshows/pma04/index.htmlWalking by the Durst booth (the makers of the Lambda printer), I had to go over and investigate the new Durst Rho 160W Plus Flatbed UV Inkjet Printer/Press, the world's first production inkjet printer to offer white ink. Let me say that again: WHITE INK! What does this mean? According to Durst, "White ink for the Rho 160 Plus means users can create a white background on non-white and clear media. Users are also able to overlay white areas or detail, produce cleaner backgrounds, create more contrast in images, and give colors added 'pop.'" Now if Epson, HP, Canon, and the rest can just be convinced to do the same. www.durstus.com
Haven't checked the price, though!!
But here's one being delivered!!!!!

Thanks Wombat,
That Durst Rho looks a nice piece of kit but, at $465,000, may be slightly over budget :eek:Can I help?0
