Can you sell alcohol on eBay???

Hi,
I have a limited edition bottle of red wine from the France '98 World Cup.
The bottle at the bottom is like a glass football and the neck of the bottle is the Eiffel Tower. It is unopened so still full of red wine.
I was thinking of listing this on eBay in a few weeks with football fever approaching and wondered if I was allowed, with it being alcohol.
Anyone any ideas? Thanks

Just found this on ebay so I assume you can. Looks like they have a disclaimer.Member 105 of 1% at a time - 23/100 :j0 -
Ebay do not allow the sale of alcohol as there is no guarantee it will be sold to someone who is over 18.
You need a licence to sell Alcohol, If Ebay see the auction it will be pulled and you will get a warning.
The disclaimer on the auction above means nothing, An off licence couldn't sell 'collectable bottles' to under 18's by saying the contents are not for comsumption could they?
It is no different on Ebay. 0 -
Ebay can't check very often because there are a lot of bottles of alcohol that have been sold on the completed listings.
BTW, I don't believe it should be allowed.Member 105 of 1% at a time - 23/100 :j0 -
An interesting way round it. Draw your own conclusions.

Thanks for your comments. I don't think the sale of alcohol should be allowed either really, however, as daft as it sounds, its not really the alcohol they are buying.
I doubt some kid will buy it just for the alcohol content as it would be cheaper for them to get what they want from an off licence. I've notice a few Bells Whiskey drinks on eBay, xmas specials or something.
Would it not be good enough to state that you have to be Over 18 ... I'm not sure how I could prove the bidders age, but maybe go on trust, that's what eBay is based on anyway.
I don't know what to do0 -
You have to be 18 to sign up to eBay so this shouldn't be a problem. However there are many under 18s that use eBay.meerustar wrote:Would it not be good enough to state that you have to be Over 18 ... I believe the actual sale of alcohol is prohibited on ebay. However, as long as you state in your listing that 'In accordance with ebay rules, you are selling this bottle for its collectability, and that the contents are purely incidental (or words to that effect)', that is ok. Also, add that the bottle is no longer available for sale at any retail outlets. That should cover you. I have had no problems doing this with limited edition champagne.0
