Refused alternative position - how much notice

My position was made redundant and I was offered an alternative position. I have decided this is not a suitable alternative for me and so will be continuing redundancy. How much notice do I need to work? My old position was due to finish today and the new one commence. My bosses say I still need to work 4 weeks but is this right?
