Getting sacked/Fired/The Boot.

I didn't calling in to tell them I wont be able to go to work as I was ill, and they are going to sack me.
(First offense as well- also they have the right to as the contract says they can if I even miss one day without calling in)
Now my question is - is it better to let them sack me or should I just leave before they do?
I will have to go on benefits for a while- (JSA I'm guessing)- but what is going to be easier for me to claim benefit -Sacked or Leave?
I have a wife- (Full time mum) and kids.
I don't know whats best.
Any help?
Thank's

If you leave of your own accord, you will not be entitled to JSA.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

Have you been working for the past two years?0

The op would still be entitled to JSA but they may get sanctioned between 2-26 weeks. If the op gets sanctioned he would be able to apply for hardship because he has children and a dependent adult.0

You can't know for sure that they will sack you, if you have a good reason for not calling in then they should give you the opportunity to explain and maybe they won't do it.
I'm sure every penny counts - especially if you have a wife and kids so try and work for as long as you can.0 -
What does your contract of employment say - lIf you look at your disciplinary procedure as this is part of it.
If you failed to call in sick then you would be considered to be absent - how long did you absent yourself for as this has a bearing on the circumstances. If you were absent for one day then I would have thought that you would have been subject to a verbal warning...if you continued to take time off without calling in sick (not booked holiday) then expect a first written warning.
Also did you provide a self certificate for the period that you were off? Also, why didnt you phone in sick why did you just absent yourself?
If you quit your job then it is unlikely that you will be able to get JSA for several weeks.
Have a look at the acas website too as that will give you details of the law as it stands with regard to disciplinary procedures https://www.acas.org.uk0 -

I was absent for 2 days.
The first day I rang in and told them, the second I completely forgot.
My bad - but they now say a disciplinary is in order.
Oh well.
I can't say I will miss working there. so I wont. ..... :silenced:0 -
If you are having a disciplinary then you can tell them that you plain forgot to ring them..they shouldnt sack you for being off for a couple of days but do expect a verbal warning.0

Horace has it spot on, just explain you forgot and you should just get a warning0

I think they can sack me, as they put out a new contract a few months ago and got very strict.
To be honest I wouldn't mind being sacked now, I have been depressed in that job anyway.
Maybe I should just get fired and then look for another job. I know I should do this while still in employment but the job soooo sucks and is driving me crazy anyway.
Does anybody know how to get fired so I can claim benefits?
Just thought.0
