Cheap holiday suggestions, please

We're a bit skint, but really need to get away for a little while. Would love some cheap holiday suggestions.

Here's some background info: We're in our late 20s. Husband is from the North, so he can't handle the sun. So nothing too hot. No beach holidays. We prefer cities and towns. It's fine if there's a beach nearby, as long as there's something else to do. Neither of us drives, so some kind of public transport is important.

We're happy to fly on a budget airline and stay in 2* accomodations, as long as it's clean. Self-catering is better than inclusive.

We're both self-employed, so pretty flexible about the travel dates. We can fly out of any of the London airports.

It seems that a lot of people recommend Turkey, Morocco, etc. That's a bit too hot. We're thinking more like the Baltics.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I think Med type beach holidays work out the best.
What about Turkey in October if you want it cheap & not too hot.

maybe wait until early september, get a cheap week to Bulgaria (sunny beach) You will find lots to do there and the weather starts to cool down in SEP.

So cheap to eat out and drink so just go BB

Hop on Ryan Air and fly to Haugusund, Norway then take the express to Stavanger. They have a wonderful food festival (on the harbor) that is called "Gladmat" that is like 5 days long towards the end of July.
If you don't want to fly with Ryan Air..SAS and Norwegian Air flies directly to Stavanger :) It can get hot there in summer BUT nothing like Turkey. There are hostels and such about there too ;)

As a fellow northerner, I fully undertsand the problem of too much sun, as we are experiencing right now. We had a great long weekend in Helsinki, beautiful city with lots to do but easy to relax as well. Great food and a lot less expensive than either Norway, which I loved but the wallet didn't and Sweden which is my least favourite of the Scandanavian capitals. We also discovered that in Helsinki all the 4 and 5 star hotels reduce prices in the summer so until mid September, it is even better value and the temp rarely exceeds 21 degrees, which it was today instead of the hell on earth of London.......

Well I'm from the north and I like it HOT! HOT! HOT!

Weather patterns across Europe are becoming very unpredictable. I have just come back from a week of rain, thunder and lightening (every day) in Greece, reminiscent at times of my childhood holidays in Anglesey actually! Must remember to pack the wellies and kagoul to pop on with the bikini next time!

What about Eurocamp type hol in France, early Sept when the kids have gone back? Some sites are in easy reach of budget airline airports.
