Mosquito & Insect Repellent?

Heading to Spain in Aug. and last year I got quite a few bug bites while sitting outside in the evening...so this year I'm going with something good to put on my skin so that won't happen again.
What do you use and has anyone used those "whipes" ? Do they work as good as spray?

Can anyone advise on this PLEASE? I'm going to Venice very soon which I believe is full of mosquitos! (all that water!)
What is the best protection? sprays, lotions, or wipes?
Which are the least offensive to use?
Do plug ins for the rooms help or a waste of money?
Can you recommend any particular brand?
Thank you

Most holiday "reps" will tell you that you should buy your insect repellants at the resort you are visiting.
It seems that mossies vary from region to region, so a repellant that works in one country may not work in another.
Local chemists will stock the ones applicable to their locality0 -
Avon's Skin-So-Soft bath oil is reputed to be an excellent insect repellent. Staying properly covered up at dawn and dusk is probably the best thing you can do, and don't wear dark colours, the mossies are attracted to them much more than light colours. Anything containing citronella is good, too0

Start taking vitamin B complex now, it makes your blood taste and smelly nasty to mossies to they don't bite you. I've been doing this for years now and it really does work, I usually start a week before I go to let is build up enough. Only down side is you get flourescent peeAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

skin so soft is good and at least you don't feel like you're doing harm to your skin.
Vit B is worth a try too - I take Brewers Yeast before I go and tend not to get bitten too badly!0 -
I find a lot of these don't work! You will still get the odd bite! Its worth spending a bit more to get proper ones!0
