When I had a big tree that I wanted felling I looked in Freecycle and various other free ads and found a couple with a wood burner who were after wood.

I contacted them about the 'free wood' (the 25 foot tree) and they came round and cut down the tree with a chainsaw. I helped them and it took quite a few hours, we had to do it in stages.

When it was all down and scattered all over the garden, they took the logs for their wood burner and I kept the branches to shred and take to recycling.

    Didn't cost me a penny! :)

Clever. :) How did you safely cut down the tree? This tree is too tall to cut down in one go so the neighbours may be concerned if I didn't get insured professionals to do it.
